World-leading logistics provider relies on iFD material flow control

iFD GmbH has secured a new contract for a material flow control system from a leading global logistics service provider. The logistics service provider is planning to build a new logistics centre. The automated system will comprise, amongst other things, container conveyor technology in the goods-in and picking and packing areas, an automated KLT warehouse operated by storage robots, and a shuttle system with multi-buffers.

The iFD material flow control system (WarehousePilot (WHP)) handles the removal and storage of the KLTs in the inbound area. The individual KLTs are transported by the conveyor system to the handover point for the warehouse robots, and the storage order is transferred to the fully automated storage system.

Furthermore, the iFD WarehousePilot handles the provision of required empty KLTs in the goods-in area, taking into account the capacity of the empty container buffer and planned consumption. In the event of shortages, the iFD WarehousePilot ensures a replenishment of empty containers.

Furthermore, the WHP controls the outbound processes. The KLTs are transported by the warehouse robot system to the handover point and then transferred to the conveyor system. The WHP transports the KLTs to the appropriate single or multi-buffer. In the multi-buffer, a shuttle system is used, which is also controlled by the iFD WarehousePilot.

The KLTs are then made available to the packing department via the conveyor system in the correct order sequence. The iFD WHP handles the sequencing.

In addition to the main processes, the iFD WHP also handles consolidation processes, buffer management, non-conforming item (NIO) handling, label printing, visualisation and error visualisation.

Prior to implementation, iFD simulated the planned warehouse processes to validate them against the plan.

We are delighted by the trust and interest shown in our WarehousePilot and look forward to a successful collaboration with the system integrator (GU) and the end customer.
