TD Deutsche Klimakompressor GmbH gains space with new high-bay warehouse

News Placeholder2

TD Deutsche Klimakompressor GmbH (TDDK for short) is a company owned by the two Japanese automotive suppliers Toyota Industries Corporation and Denso Corporation, based in Bernsdorf. Today, TDDK is a leading manufacturer of air conditioning compressors for vehicles. With the slogan ‘the cool breath of quality’, TDDK has been making a promise for decades that is proven with every compressor produced.

The global pandemic created critical circumstances for a large number of companies early on last year – and this was essentially the case across all sectors. The introduction of hygiene measures and new working practices presented many firms with new challenges. However, production-oriented businesses in particular faced even greater concerns due to the collapse of supply chains. A halt in production had to be avoided at all costs.

A global shift in thinking is taking place. Instead of rationalising their own storage space as much as possible, as in previous years, the expansion of production-adjacent storage capacity is once again a priority for many companies.

This is also the case at TDDK in Bernsdorf. To improve the long-term security of supply for production, TDDK therefore opted for a new high-bay warehouse.

The high-bay warehouse in question is a narrow-aisle warehouse, which is operated using narrow-aisle forklifts. Starting from goods-in, the front-loading forklifts handle the delivery to the narrow-aisle warehouse. The collection and transport of goods from the narrow-aisle warehouse to production is organised using the company’s own automated guided vehicles (AGVs).

Full control of the narrow-aisle warehouse processes is handled by the existing iFD system. As part of the project, the iFD system is being upgraded with an extension to the warehouse management module and the storage location search function. The transport orders for the narrow-aisle vehicles are divided into route-optimised pairs and then assigned to the narrow-aisle forklifts for processing.

Via an interface to the automated guided vehicle system, the AGVs are informed about goods that have been removed from storage and are to be collected for transfer to production.
