iFD client from the Rhine-Neckar region benefits from migration expertise

News Placeholder2

In recent years, iFD has carried out several migration projects for both existing and new customers. IT migrations to new systems are usually associated with risks that are difficult to assess. Minimising these risks is at the heart of the migration methodology used by iFD GmbH.

iFD possesses comprehensive expertise in the field of system modernisation. We support our clients both in the replacement of hardware components and in the conversion of the software environment and the warehouse management software itself. Together with our component suppliers, we carry out retrofit projects to equip systems for the future.

A new client will also be working with iFD GmbH to modernise the material flow system at its site in Weingarten, Baden-Württemberg, to control the high-bay warehouse, the conveyor technology in the high-bay pre-zone and the conveyor technology for production supply.

iFD strongly recommended a future-proof replacement of the existing material flow control system, as system adaptations or modifications to the legacy system were deemed to be very high-risk.

The new customer, with one of the most modern and innovative research and manufacturing centres, manufactures and produces in close dialogue with its international customers.

Carefully coordinated and supported by an intelligent logistics concept, production runs seven days a week, 24 hours a day in three shifts. This requires the highest level of reliability in terms of availability and maintenance.

With iFD’s future-proof system and proven availability of 99.8%, the risks of system failure are significantly reduced.

iFD’s browser-based material flow control, featuring a base system and modular components, can be scaled to suit different systems and set up virtually without interruption during live operation.

The modular system utilises the following modules:

  • ASRS Crane Kit (for high-bay and automated storage and retrieval systems)
  • Picking Kit (dialogue control, pick-by-voice, pick-by-light, MDE picking)
  • Conveyor Kit (discontinuous conveyor, pallet FT)
  • Bin Kit (continuous conveyor, container FT)
  • Rail Carrier Kit (discrete conveyors, EHB, EBB)
  • Inventory Kit (continuous, order-based, flexible)
  • WMS Kit (inventory and order processing)

Visualisation is the central element of material flow control and provides users with an overview of current operations on the system. Visualisation is already included in the base system and requires no additional programmes or licences.

Commissioning of the customer’s system in Weingarten is scheduled for early 2021.
