iFD modernises conveyor system at Kleiberit

Kleiberit

For more than 70 years, Klebchemie M.G. Becker GmbH & Co.KG (brand name Kleiberit) has been developing, manufacturing and distributing glues, adhesives, PU foams and sealants for the domestic and international markets. Its customers include the furniture and timber industries, the trades, as well as the automotive, construction, filter and textile industries. Annual output stands at approximately 60,000 tonnes and the company employs around 660 staff worldwide.

At the heart of the logistics system to be controlled is a four-aisle high-bay warehouse (HRL) for dispatch, with one stacker crane (RBG) in each aisle. A pallet conveyor system, comprising several vertical and horizontal conveyors, handles the storage and retrieval of goods. Goods are made available for dispatch to the customer via two picking stations.

In addition, production is connected via various conveyor lines. Palletised goods produced that need to be held for picking and dispatch are automatically transferred from production to the high-bay warehouse.

The MFCS material flow control system from iFD is ideally suited for the modernisation or retrofitting of existing systems. In addition to providing a future-proof replacement for an old system, it increases conveyor capacity through improved strategies and uniform load distribution. Furthermore, the new material flow control system offers many add-ons and expansion options, for example when extending an existing system to include additional storage areas or bays.

The iFD MFCS is tested using integrated system simulation with proven operating scenarios, thereby guaranteeing stability in live operation.

The jointly developed implementation concept provided for only short-term shutdowns of various system components during weekend operations. This significantly shortened the commissioning period and minimised the risk of downtime. Thanks to the collaborative partnership between the two companies and this approach, the retrofit was successfully completed within a very ambitious timeframe whilst ensuring continuous 24-hour production operations.
