iFD-WMS with a streamlined feature set has been successfully commissioned

Smart Warehouse Pic

Since February 2020, iFD GmbH has been able to count a new client from the Aschaffenburg district among its references. The aim was to expand the intralogistics system with a newly built logistics centre and to optimise the associated warehousing and order-picking processes.

The new client manufactures lithium-ion system solutions at the site. As part of the expansion, a third production hall and a new logistics centre were built alongside the two existing production buildings. These facilities are intended to supply the three production sites via automated guided vehicles in the near future.

The new logistics centre consists of a front hall and a high-bay area. The front hall essentially covers the main processes. The high-bay area comprises a narrow-aisle and wide-aisle warehouse, a pallet supermarket and a shelf warehouse.

The system manages the warehouse, which has approximately 10,000 storage locations in the high-bay warehouse, and interfaces with the Microsoft Dynamics ERP system.

In addition to WMS functions such as the mapping of goods receipt and goods issue, the project scope included route-optimised control of transport within the warehouse. The execution of processes in the warehouse is supported by an Android application on dedicated data terminals. The go-live of the new software solution was scheduled for late summer 2020 and was completed on schedule.

The WMS system is implemented entirely in Java, is object-oriented and uses a relational database accessed by all system components. It is structured according to client-server architecture, is scalable in all parts and adaptable to future extensions. The system implementation optimises and simplifies existing processes and increases transparency within intralogistics.

In future, the WMS will manage the following customer areas:

  • Goods receipt
  • Goods issue
  • High-bay warehouse
  • Shelf warehouse
