Medical technology manufacturer Hager & Meisinger GmbH has chosen the warehouse management system from iFD GmbH for its new logistics centre at its main site in Neuss.

Hager & Meisinger GmbH is a manufacturer of dental and medical technology. A range of around 12,000 products is manufactured in the company’s own production facilities and distributed to 100 countries. The long-established company has 130 years of manufacturing and development experience.

In 2019, the ‘New Logistics Centre’ project was launched at the main site in Neuss. The new logistics centre is used to store, pick and dispatch ready-to-sell products. A central element of the logistics concept is an AutoStore solution, which enables comprehensive optimisation of the material flow – particularly for small parts. With a two-digit number of robots, maximum picking performance can be achieved. Pick-by-Light components at the ports provide additional support for the picking process.

The logistics concept also integrates pallet and racking systems, in which ‘man-to-goods’ picking is carried out using MDE devices. In addition, counting and inspection trolleys provide optimal support for piece goods picking.

In addition to the standard requirements for a WMS, the following functionalities are also covered by the iFD-WMS:

  • Sequencing for loading
  • Handling and management of packaging instructions
  • Batch management, traceability and batch-specific picking

Furthermore, the AutoStore system is fully integrated into the WMS, enabling Hager & Meisinger to view an overview of current bay utilisation and AutoStore activities at all times in the WMS control centre.

For order preparation and fulfilment, the company relies on the external dispatch system V-Log, which perfectly assesses the diversity of carriers and CEPs and finds the right dispatcher.

For this project, iFD is using its tried-and-tested warehouse management system with integrated material flow control (iFD-WMS for short).

Overall responsibility for the project lies with the general contractor Heber Fördertechnik, based in Eberhardzell in northern Upper Swabia.
