iFD Pick-by-Light - Improving process quality
To meet growing logistical demands, logistics processes can be carried out and supported cost-effectively and efficiently with the help of pick-by-light solutions.
As early as 2008, iFD recognised that an intelligent Pick-by-Light system could unlock untapped potential within intralogistics and therefore expanded its existing product portfolio. At that time, the system had already been introduced at a major German sports car manufacturer. To this day, the iFD Pick-by-Light system is used by this customer and many others in various areas of intralogistics and has been continuously expanded to meet new requirements.
An iFD Pick-by-Light system offers the major advantage that new staff can be deployed quickly in the picking areas and that unforeseen resource shortages can be offset with minimal effort. The excellent guidance provided to the picker throughout the process noticeably reduces the workload on the employee and aims to achieve a completely error-free picking process based on the Six Sigma model.
Pick-by-Light – an interactive form of paperless picking – in which eye-catching lights and confirmation buttons eliminate the need for analogue pick lists and create fully digital picking processes.
In this form of picking, the system guides the picker through the picking zones via an optimised route. The items to be picked, in the correct order and in the appropriate quantities, are displayed on the Pick-by-Light screen. Quantity corrections are also easily reported back during the process using function keys on the display.
As KBS Industrieelektronik demonstrates, time has of course not stood still in recent years. Thanks to new Pick-by-Light displays featuring OLED technology for displaying graphics, built-in motion sensors or touch sensors on the eye-catching light for automatic confirmation, processes can be completely reimagined and implemented.
Thanks to the wide range of possible applications, KBS Industrieelektronik GmbH has developed a comprehensive range of Pick-by-Light display modules that can suitably cover the various use cases.
By enhancing the Pick-by-Light system through the creation of a technologically advanced, state-of-the-art software core, the iFD recognises this trend and offers the possibility of utilising new display technologies or mapping complex picking processes using agile displays. This includes the mapping of highly dynamic picking or dynamic sequencing.
In summary, the new software core of the iFD Pick-by-Light system integrates sophisticated picking strategies and further increases the productivity of the entire system. When investing in process improvement and logistics optimisation, iFD always prioritises one key consideration: ensuring the investment pays for itself as quickly as possible for the customer.
