iFD-LVS receives an Android update
For years, Microsoft-based devices dominated mobile data collection, but recently more and more manufacturers have been offering Android-based terminals and handhelds alongside the tried-and-tested Microsoft technology, which offer a number of advantages.
The iFD-LVS is now also available for both platforms. This move brings iFD customers even greater flexibility, future-proofing and, above all, performance thanks to often superior hardware. These advantages naturally also extend to the graphical user interface of the iFD software, which is now even more intuitive to use.
Furthermore, iFD customers can now use standard off-the-shelf devices in addition to specialised industrial hardware. Many employees already use Android devices in their private lives, which automatically ensures acceptance of the new hardware and makes training quick and straightforward. Furthermore, the devices offer a significant cost advantage in terms of acquisition costs.
Most mobile Android devices used in intralogistics centres are equipped with a camera, which can now be used more flexibly and easily. This means that, even in mobile applications, it is possible to take a product photo at the touch of a button, link it to the master data by scanning the item number, and store it on the WMS server.
But it won’t stop at a simple Android app: further innovations, such as order picking via smartwatch or smart glasses, are already being developed.
