iFD client KOMSA opens new logistics centre
Founded in Hartmannsdorf in 1992, KOMSA is one of the leading providers of Information & Communications Technology (ICT). With 1,800 employees and an annual turnover of €1.2 billion, this long-standing iFD client ranks among the 200 largest family-run businesses in Germany. In the 2016/2017 financial year, the company dispatched around four million parcels.
To cope with the ever-growing product range, which currently comprises around 33,000 items, the production and logistics areas at the main site have been significantly expanded. Just over two years ago, the first construction work began on buildings, machinery and logistics equipment, with investment costs of €30 million – the largest investment in the company’s history to date. Following a construction period of just 20 months, the new logistics centre, the three-storey service building and an additional staff car park were opened on 5 May 2017. The new warehouse was connected at ground level to the existing main logistics facility via a connecting building.
The centrepiece of the logistics expansion is a 21-metre-high high-bay warehouse. iFD supplied the warehouse management software for this, which, in addition to storage location management and bin search, also handles route optimisation and control of the semi-automatic narrow-aisle forklifts. The software solution for the high-bay warehouse was integrated with the iFD warehouse management and material flow control software that has been in use since 2008.
Thanks to this logistics area, which has been expanded by 10,000 m² and features 14,500 pallet spaces, KOMSA has been able to supply its customers even better and faster since 5 May 2017.
