FLOW – Energy-efficient and cost-effective tracking for intralogistics

News Placeholder2

The further development of future-proof technologies is a key priority for iFD GmbH. A central aspect of our innovation strategy is the initiation of and participation in research projects on trending topics in intralogistics, particularly those focusing on Industry 4.0. In doing so, the added value for our customers is always at the heart of our considerations.

Industrial trucks such as forklift trucks and transport vehicles play a key role in intralogistics. To optimise and automate intralogistics processes, companies use forklift guidance systems such as the iFD-SLS to provide IT support. In current applications, these are occasionally supplemented by various positioning technologies; however, due to the prevailing market prices for such technologies, this involves quite high investment costs. These investment costs result, on the one hand, from the purchase price of the technology to be deployed and, on the other hand, from the costs of installation.

The current ‘FLOW’ research project is developing a concept that aims to enable cost-effective and energy-efficient tracking of industrial trucks using wake-up receiver technology. The position data obtained in this way can be used for navigation and for more efficient control of the vehicles via the iFD software. The consortium for the project, funded by the BMWi, comprises a partner specialising in hardware development, a company responsible for developing the transmission methods and network service, and iFD GmbH, which is developing innovative navigation and routing methods for operational forklift control based on the technology.

The aim of the development is to offer a low-maintenance and affordable solution to companies that have previously had to forego comprehensive vehicle tracking for cost reasons.
